“Very good verbose murder mystery” “Comic duo of Harker and Sim work well together” (IMDB reviews quotes).
First of the three seriocomic Hornleigh mysteries with Gordon Harker in the title role and costarring Alastair Sim as the bumbling Sgt. Bingham. The fast-moving plot keeps you on your toes. Followed by “Inspector Hornleigh on Holiday.” IMDB rating 7.0.

Good Mystery - Better than "On Holiday"
The first of the Inspector Hornleigh films and much better than the last, "Inspector Hornleigh on Holiday." Why? Mostly because of the minimal presence of Alastair Sim (Sgt. Bingham) as the bumbling , silly comic relief to Gordon Harker's excellent all-business Inspector Hornleigh. The script, plot and direction are fine, although it probably would have been a better movie without Sim. The other actors are all good by degrees, particularly Edward Underdown (Peter Dench) and Hugh Williams (Alan Gordon). The actors playing the Inn employees, the leather worker and the detective are good Miki Hood (Ann Gordon) made nice window dressing and Steve Geray (Michael Kavanos) as the mild-mannered, crooked foreign financier do what the script asks of them. You can spend an enjoyable 72 minutes here.
